Shimano Voluntary Inspection Programme

Dear TEN members,

You may or may not be aware that Shimano recently launched an extensive voluntary inspection programme for Ultegra and Dura Ace hollow tech cranksets produced between June 1st 2012 and June 30th 2019.

Models covered by this programme are:

Dura Ace models FC-9000, FC-R9100, FC-R9100-P

Ultegra models FC6800 and FC-R8000

It is relatively simple to determine If your crankset requires inspection. The first step is to check if the model number and production code on your crankset are listed below.

Model number identification – as highlighted by yellow box in picture below:

Production code identification – 2 letter code as highlighted by blue box in picture below:

Production codes requiring inspection:

The affected models are pre-July 2019 production and have the following two-letter production codes: KF, KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK, KL, LA, LB, LC, LD, LE, LF, LG, LH, LI, LJ, LK, LL, MA, MB, MC, MD, ME, MF, MG, MH, MI, MJ, MK, ML, NA, NB, NC, ND, NE, NF, NG, NH, NI, NJ, NK, NL, OA, OB, OC, OD, OE, OF, OG, OH, OI, OJ, OK, OL, PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF, PG, PH, PI, PJ, PK, PL, QA, QB, QC, QD, QE, QF, QG, QH, QI, QJ, QK, QL, RA, RB, RC, RD, RE, and RF.

If you have a crankset of the model and production code listed above contact Mark at Pedal Power Inverurie (01467 624323 or info@pedalpowercyclecentre.com) or Trev at Osprey Cycles Inverurie (07736 054998 or Trev@ospreycycles.co.uk) and make a booking for the inspection to be carried out. This will then be logged with Shimano and if replacement is required it will be arranged. Any other shimano approved service centre will also be available to carry out the inspection and if necessary arrange replacement.

I would add, just to set expectation levels but not to dissuade from having the inspection carried out, that if you do require replacement this may involve you being without a crankset for a period as the supply from manufacturing in Japan in to Europe and the rest of the world is not fully up to speed just yet. Shimano UK expect the 1st replacement units to arrive in the UK in late October.

Regards

Mark Fraser
