WHAT TO EXPECT ON A TEN CLUB RIDE

Our TEN club rides are all led by ride leaders who are aware of club expectations and are there to help with the safety and efficient riding of each group.  Ultimately though, the safety of the group rests with each individual rider.

To give riders a better understanding of what to expect from their ride, we class them as social or training.

GET OUT AND RIDE

Social Ride - these are the majority of our rides, are relaxed and paced according to group ability where the riders aim to ride together.  Longer rides will generally include a cafe stop and all rides are friendly with nobody being dropped.

Training Ride - a focused ride where speeds are generally higher and activities may include elements such as chaingang, hill reps or sprint intervals. These rides are available to all, however, you should be aware of the expectations prior to attending and depending on the training sessions, riders may be dropped.

Please familiarise yourself with the full ride details prior to attending. These will be included in the Spond event and outline expectations are detailed on our rides page.

WHAT IS SPACE???

Space is a simple acronym we use to remind us how to be best prepared for a safe and enjoyable ride, standing for Surroundings, Preparation, Awareness, Code and Emergency. Read more about each of these below and consider how you can best apply it.

You'll find that the words can have multiple meanings for additional benefit.

I.C.E. - In Case of Emergency

Along with our commitment to safe cycling and our SPACE campaign, we have developed a template for an ICE card which can be printed out and filled in with personalised emergency information.

The card is designed to be small and compact so that it will easily fit alongside a phone, in a jersey pocket or other easily accessible location.

Many apps and smartphones have this capability and while this would be encouraged, there is always the possibility of a phone being damaged in an accident or running out of battery.

All our members are encouraged to take emergency information with them and if nothing else, this is a useful backup to carry with you just in case the unexpected happens.
